Ive been shooting with my 90D for a few years now and usually stick to natural light for my birding but I've got my sisters wedding in two weeks and honestly Im low-key panicking. My old third-party flash just fried itself during a test run and now Im worried about missing the shots indoors. Plus I really need something that can handle fill light for wildlife at a distance without taking forever to recycle... been looking at the 430EX III-RT but idk if it has enough power for what I need. My budget is capped at like $350 or $400 max. Should I just stick with Canon or is there a Godox or something that works better for fast-paced events and long-range fill?
honestly skip the canon and grab the Godox V1-C Li-ion Round Head Flash. i used it for a wedding last month and it was incredible, such fast recycle times!
Building on the earlier suggestion, I'd say you really gotta be careful about recycle times during a wedding. I have seen people miss the first kiss because their flash was still charging... absolute nightmare. For your $400 budget, I would suggest a setup that handles heat better than the entry Canon stuff.
Just catching up on this thread. Honestly, ive spent years testing these things and you really gotta look at the Guide Number (GN) if you're doing wildlife. The 430EX is fine for family photos but it wont reach those distant birds and the recycle time on AAs is way too slow for a wedding. I suggest checking out the Godox V860III-C Ving Li-ion Flash for a few reasons:
