Hey everyone! I just recently upgraded to a Canon EOS R6, and I’m absolutely loving the RF system so far. However, I’ve quickly realized that my old, flimsy tripod isn't quite cutting it for the weight of the RF 24-105mm f/4L lens. I'm looking for something budget-friendly—ideally under $150—that is sturdy enough for long exposures but light enough to take on weekend hikes. I’ve looked at some entry-level options from brands like Manfrotto and Vanguard, but I'm worried about stability in the wind. Does anyone have a specific model they use with their RF setup that offers a good balance of price and durability? What’s the best bang-for-your-buck tripod you’d recommend for this mirrorless system?
This^ Seconding the Benro call. I've lugged that RF glass everywhere and learned that budget carbon can be sooo flexy, right? * K&F Concept S210 64-inch Tripod: Sturdy and stable but heavy to carry.
* Neewer 66-inch Carbon Fiber Tripod/Monopod: Lightweight for hikes but kinda shaky in wind. Id go aluminum for long exposures cuz it handles wind way better. gl!
I went through this last year and landed on the Benro Slim Carbon Fiber Lightweight Tripod TSL08CN00 for about $130. I know carbon fiber was mentioned, and I was initialy disappointed with this ball head's drag, but the torsional rigidity of the legs is actually solid for that front-heavy RF glass. Its definately a better balance for hiking than the generic stuff I tried before!
sooo first off, welcome to the R6 club!! honestly it's such a beast of a camera, but that RF 24-105mm glass is pretty front-heavy. i've learned over the years that the main issue with budget tripods isn't just the weight capacity, but the vibration dampening... basically if it's too light, the wind just vibrates the whole thing and ruins the shot. For your situation, I would suggest the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB 100 Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head. I've had mine for like 4 years and it's seriously solid for long exposures. It's usually under $150 and works well. Another great option if you're hiking a lot is the K&F Concept 64 inch Carbon Fiber Camera Tripod SA254C1. It's light enough to carry all day but sturdy enough to hold the R6 steady, i think. I've been really happy with it for the price, no complaints at all. tbh just make sure to hang your bag on the center hook if it gets windy... helps a ton! gl!
