Recommendation for a high-quality external monitor for Canon R series?

I’ve been doing more video work with my Canon R6 and R7 lately, but I’m really struggling with the tiny built-in screen for critical focus. I need a solid external monitor that won’t break the bank but offers great color accuracy.

Since I shoot a lot of bright outdoor scenes, I’m looking for something with at least 1500 nits. I also need to make sure the latency is minimal since the Canon micro-HDMI can be a bit finicky sometimes. I’ve been eye-balling the Atomos Ninja or maybe a Shinobi, but I’m curious if there are better options for the price.

What monitors are you guys using with your Canon R bodies that you’d actually recommend?

Curious about one thing: are you actually looking to record ProRes externally or do you literally just need it for framing and focus?? Basically, if you arent recording, getting a full-on recorder might be a waste of money and extra battery weight. Since the R6 and R7 micro-HDMI is so fragile, you gotta be careful... I would suggest getting a SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon EOS R6 with a SmallRig HDMI Cable Clamp to protect that port before you plug anything in. It is SO easy to snap those pins if the cable gets snagged. Anyway, if you just want a bright screen without the Atomos price tag, check these out:

I was struggling with my R6 in the sun until I grabbed the Portkeys LH5P II 5.5 Inch 2200Nit High Brightness Camera Monitor. Honestly, it's a beast. It's got 2200 nits so it's crazy bright outdoors, and the latency is pretty minimal... definitely better than my old cheapo setup. Plus, it actually controls the camera settings! Best decision I've made for my rig tbh. cheers!
