Ive been shooting with my 90D for years and love it for sports but I just signed up to cover a huge soccer tournament in Seattle next weekend and Im kinda worried about power. Usually I just swap batteries but when Im pushing that 10fps burst my LP-E6N packs drain way faster than expected during long matches.
Ive never actually used a vertical grip before but I think I need the extra juice and better ergonomics for all those portrait shots. I have about $130 to spend. Should I bite the bullet on the official Canon BG-E14 or are third party ones like Vello or Neewer actually reliable? Im mostly worried about weather sealing since itll probably be raining. What are you guys using?
@Reply #1 - good point! Quick question tho, what lenses you using? Ive been really satisfied with this setup:
Quick question, are you using a rain cover or just risking it in the rain? I tried saving cash with the Meike MK-80D Vertical Battery Grip for Canon 90D and it was a letdown. The battery tray rattled constantly and it actually drained my cells when the camera was off... super annoying. Tbh, if you can't afford the official grip, just get a few Canon LP-E6NH High Capacity Li-ion Battery packs instead for better capacity.
Unfortunately, third-party options lack the weather-resistant gasket sealing of the original. I had issues with circuit shorting before. You'll want the Canon BG-E14 Battery Grip for that Seattle weather.
