Does anyone have a solid list of must-have video accessories for the Canon 6D Mark II because I am honestly panicking a bit about this wedding I have to film in Seattle next month? I've been a stills photographer for over ten years so I know my way around a DSLR but diving into video with this specific body is proving to be a lot more stressful than I expected.
The Dual Pixel AF is snappy enough for tracking the couple but the lack of 4K is really starting to get to me and the footage looks way softer than I anticipated when I'm shooting 1080p. I tried using the internal mic during a rehearsal and it was a total disaster—just a lot of hiss and wind noise. Plus I realized too late that there's no headphone jack on this thing which is honestly terrifying when you're trying to make sure you actually captured the vows.
I have about 800 bucks left in my budget to rig this thing out. Should I be looking at a specific external monitor that supports audio out or maybe a certain stabilizer since the digital IS crops the frame so much it ruins my wide shots? I'm using my 24-70mm f/2.8 but the weight is making my handheld shots look like an earthquake. What are you guys using to make this camera actually viable for professional-ish video work?
I ran into the same issues when I started shooting video on my 6D Mark II. It is definitely a learning curve... especially the audio part. Here is what I used to make it work for weddings without spending a fortune.
Like someone mentioned, a monitor is vital for audio monitoring, but are you planning to capture the vows with a dedicated source or just on-camera? I highly recommend the Tascam DR-10L Portable Digital Recorder for the groom. Quick tip: the softness is often the internal processing. Try turning sharpening down to zero and use a Tiffen 82mm Variable ND Filter to maintain that 180-degree shutter rule.
