Honestly i feel like i'm losing my mind trying to figure out these lens names. I just got the canon r50 for my birthday and its cool and all but the lens it came with just doesnt zoom in enough at all. like i was trying to take pictures of my kids soccer game last weekend and everything looked like tiny ants in the distance. i went online to look for a zoom lens and there are like fifty different options and the prices are all over the place and i dont even know what rf or rfs means or if they even fit. like why is it so complicated lol. im really frustrated because i spent all my savings on the camera and now i realize i need even more gear just to get a basic shot.
here is what i need:
- it has to be cheap. like under 400 or 500 dollars max because i'm totally broke now.
- i want to see things far away like birds in the yard or kids sports.
- something thats not too heavy to carry around all day at the park.
- i dont want to deal with weird adapters if possible unless its super easy to use.
is there anything that just clicks on and works without me needing a degree in photography? i saw something called a 55-210 but some people say its bad and others say its okay? i just want to take decent photos without spending a fortune...

I was in your shoes last year and almost wasted money on a heavy adapter setup. Honestly, you should be careful with the apertures on these budget zooms because they need a lot of sunlight to work well.
- Canon RF-S 55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM is the simplest choice for your R50.
- Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM offers way more reach for birds if you find a refurbished deal.

Unfortunately, I had issues with that 55-210mm lens when I tried it for my nephew's games. It just didnt have the reach I wanted. Honestly, it was kinda disappointing... everything still felt too far away. How big are the fields your kids play on? If they're on full-sized pitches, you'll probably regret not saving for the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM instead, even if you have to buy it used.

- be careful about buying older glass that needs a bulky adapter.
- make sure you stick to RF or RF-S mount lenses so you dont end up with a heavy setup.
