Im honestly so over the kit lens that came with this T7 its driving me crazy. Ive been trying to take some decent indoor shots of my kids at their basketball games and everything just comes out like a blurry mess and I feel like I wasted my money on this camera if I cant even get a clear shot. I tried adjusting the settings like some youtube video said but the kit lens just isnt fast enough or whatever and im just really frustrated with the whole thing right now because I really wanted to have good photos for the end of the season tournament next month.
I only have about $150 maybe $200 tops to spend on extras because I already spent way more than I planned on the camera itself and I dont want to buy more junk that doesnt work. I live in a pretty rural area so I have to order everything online and I really dont want to deal with returns if the stuff is bad. What are the absolute best budget accessories I should look for to actually make this camera usable for a beginner who is struggling? Are there specific lenses or maybe a better flash that wont break the bank? I really need to get this figured out before the big game in three weeks...
Honestly, I was in the exact same boat with my T7 last year. Trying to shoot basketball in those dim high school gyms is basically a nightmare with that kit lens. I almost quit until I picked up a nifty fifty and it totally changed everything for me. I am really satisfied with how much better my shots look now without spending a fortune. Here is what I would grab to stay under that $200 limit:
I've been shooting for years and honestly, the T7 is a bit of a disappointment for sports. I had issues with that autofocus system being way too slow for basketball when I tried it. It's just not as good as you'd want for fast action, which is super frustrating when you're just trying to get memories of your kids. Quick question tho, how far back are you sitting? If you're up in the bleachers, that 50mm mentioned before might be too wide to see anything, but if you're on the floor it's perfect. If you're really struggling with the light, you're gonna need that Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM for sure. Also, check your SD card. If it's slow, the camera will hang while trying to process. Something like a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I is cheap and helps with that. Just don't expect the T7 to suddenly become a pro sports rig... it's a bit of an uphill battle, ngl.
@Reply #2 - good point! The autofocus is definitely basic, but a better lens fixed all my issues. I was so satisfied when I finally grabbed a prime lens for indoor sports.
