Okay so I finally did it and bought the Canon R50!! Im so stoked because Ive been using my iPhone 12 for literally everything but I wanted to start a travel vlog for my trip to Tokyo next month. I took it out for a test run yesterday just walking around the park and oh my god the footage is so shaky it almost made me sick watching it back lol. I thought the camera would just fix that automatically but I guess not?? My friend told me I need a gimbal thingy to keep it steady but I am looking at them online and there are like a million options and I honestly dont even know what I am looking at. Some of them look huge and some look small and I am super confused about the weight limit stuff. Since I already spent way too much on the camera and my plane tickets my budget is pretty tight like maybe $200 or $250 if I push it. I just want something that isnt gonna break and is easy for a total beginner to set up because I am really bad with tech stuff. Is there a specific one that works well with the R50 specifically? I dont want to buy one and then find out it doesnt even fit the camera or something...

Unfortunately I had a really rough time with the Zhiyun Crane M2S 3-Axis Gimbal when I first started. It felt flimsy and balancing it was a total nightmare with the R50 screen... honestly not as good as expected. Try these instead:

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Honestly it drives me crazy how these camera companies market the R50 as this perfect vlogging tool but then leave you hanging with footage that looks like an earthquake. It is a total nightmare. I have been through so many setups over the years and the state of the budget gimbal market is just depressing.

  • The build quality on anything in that 200 buck range is usually garbage. You get cheap plastic parts that snap the second you try to balance them in a hurry.
  • Payload ratings are a complete scam. They tell you it can handle the weight but they dont account for the center of gravity or the motor torque actually needed to keep it smooth.
  • Software is another disaster. Most of these budget brands have apps that barely work or just crash halfway through a firmware update which basically bricks your device. It is honestly such a scam that we have to deal with this just to get a steady shot. You think you are buying a tool but you end up buying a headache because the reliability just isnt there anymore.
