Which wireless remote shutter triggers work best for Canon EOS DSLR cameras?

Hey everyone! I’ve been shooting with my Canon EOS 90D for a while now, and I’m starting to get more into long-exposure landscapes and macro photography. I've realized that even with a sturdy tripod, just pressing the shutter button manually is introducing enough vibration to soften my images. I’ve tried using the built-in self-timer, but it’s honestly a bit of a hassle when I’m trying to time a specific moment or working with moving subjects.

I’m looking for a reliable wireless remote shutter trigger that won’t break the bank. I’ve seen everything from the official Canon BR-E1 Bluetooth remotes to those cheaper third-party RF triggers on Amazon like Vello or Neewer. I'm a bit confused about whether I should go with an infrared option, Bluetooth, or a 2.4GHz radio system. Ideally, I’d like something with a decent range—at least 30-50 feet—so I can use it for some wildlife shots or group family photos too. It would also be great if it supports bulb mode for those really long nighttime exposures.

Has anyone here had a particularly good (or bad!) experience with a specific brand or model for their EOS DSLR? I’m looking for something that is easy to pair and doesn't drop the connection constantly. Which wireless triggers do you think offer the best reliability and features for the price?

honestly i've tried a bunch of these and for a 90D you want something that wont just quit on you in the middle of a shot. i'm pretty conservative with my gear and prefer stuff that's tried and tested.

  • Canon BR-E1 Wireless Remote Control is the safest bet for simple stuff. it works well for macro since it's tiny but honestly the range isn't the best for wildlife if you're far away. no complaints about pairing tho.
  • Vello FreeWave TMB-C II Wireless Remote Shutter Release and Timer is probably my favorite for what you need. it uses 2.4GHz radio so the range is way better than bluetooth. i've been very satisfied with how it handles bulb mode for those long nighttime shots.
  • Hahnel Captur Remote Control and Flash Trigger for Canon is a bit more heavy duty. its a solid choice if you're worried about build quality and want something that feels professional. i'd definitely go with a radio trigger like the Vello or Hahnel if you really need that 50ft distance. bluetooth can be a bit flaky once you start putting distance or objects between you and the camera. just makes life easier when you know the signal is gonna hit every time.
