Looking for a 90D grip for a wedding next month. The official BG-E14 is pricey but people say Neewer clones feel cheap or disconnect randomly. My budget is under $100.

  • need vertical controls
  • solid build for my 70-200mm
  • reliable battery connection

Is there a middle ground or should I just shell out for the Canon?

Honestly, i feel your pain with the pricing on the official accessories. I tried to save some cash by grabbing a generic knockoff for a wedding shoot last year and it was a total disaster. The camera kept turning off right when the couple was walking down the aisle because the battery contacts were loose... super embarrassing and definitely not worth the twenty bucks I saved. Unfortunately the super cheap ones just dont handle the weight of a heavy lens like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM very well. If you cant swing the price for a new Canon BG-E14 Battery Grip, you should check out the Vello BG-C9 Battery Grip for Canon 70D 80D 90D. I ended up swapping to that one and its way more solid than the Neewer stuff. It actually fits tight against the body and the shutter button has a decent click to it. Its usually around 70 to 80 bucks which fits your budget perfectly.
