Finally doing studio portraits for my nieces graduation next month! So I was thinking Godox X2T but then I read about weird sync issues with the 7D II specifically. I also saw Yongnuo stuff but it looks flimsy. My logic was Godox for the ecosystem but now im stuck. Budget is $100, so Xpro or what?

I ran into those sync headaches with my 7D II and the X2T during a wedding once. Honestly, I would suggest skipping it and grabbing the Godox XPro-C TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Canon instead. Be careful with Yongnuo tho, I had a foot snap off one mid-shoot and it was a nightmare. Just make sure to update the firmware on the XPro and youll be fine.

Caught this late but I would suggest being super careful with the older Godox units on that specific body. If you are worried about the sync bugs on the X2T, you might want to consider the Godox X3-C Touchscreen TTL Wireless Flash Trigger. Its their newest one and honestly feels way more solid than the Yongnuo stuff without breaking that $100 budget. Before you dive in, just keep a few things in mind:

  • check for firmware updates right out of the box
  • use the channel scan feature to avoid interference
  • make sure the pins are clean on your 7D II shoe I really like the X3 because its tiny and the touchscreen is surprisingly decent for quick adjustments. If you prefer physical buttons tho, maybe keep an eye out for a deal on the Godox XProII-C TTL Wireless Flash Trigger. It handles the 7D II communication way better than the first gen stuff did... just gotta be patient with the menu setup.

Man, I feel this so much! I am literally going through the exact same nightmare with my 7D II right now and it is driving me crazy!

  • Dealing with those same annoying sync drops constantly...
  • Trying to stay under that 100 dollar limit because I really need to save for more glass.
  • Seriously looking at the Godox XProII-C Wireless Flash Trigger if I can find a sale!

Saw this earlier and wanted to chime in because I struggled with my 7D II for ages trying to get it to sync right. I actually ended up doing a bit of a DIY deep dive into the pins because I thought my gear was broken. Basically, the 7D II is super picky about the signal timing.

  • Godox XPro-C TTL Wireless Flash Trigger: The big screen is a lifesaver, but make sure to check the Distance setting. If the trigger is too close to the flash, it misses fires. I found setting it to 0-30m mode in the menu fixed most of my sync issues.
  • Yongnuo YN-E3-RT II Wireless Speedlite Transmitter: This one is basically a clone of the Canon ST-E3-RT. It uses the native Canon radio system which I found way more reliable on the 7D II than the third-party Godox protocol since it talks the cameras language. Just be careful with the hot shoe on the 7D II specifically. Mine had a tiny bit of play in it that caused the trigger to lose connection mid-shoot. I would suggest tightening the four tiny screws under the cameras hot shoe plate if you feel any wiggle at all... that DIY fix saved me a ton of frustration and honestly made the Godox stuff work way better.

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

I have been using both brands for years and honestly I am much more satisfied with the Godox ecosystem lately.

  • The build quality is just miles ahead of the cheap plastic feel you get with the older Yongnuo stuff.
  • Sync reliability is generally great once you get the settings dialed in correctly. Funny enough, talking about graduation shoots reminds me of when I did my cousins grad party last year. We had it at this park by the river and the mosquitoes were absolutely relentless. I spent half the time swatting bugs away and the other half trying to keep the cake from melting in the sun. They had this massive chocolate fountain that sounded like a good idea until the wind picked up and started blowing chocolate spray onto everyones nice clothes. I think I spent more on dry cleaning for my jacket than I made on the shoot itself. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.
