I honestly have no idea what I am doing yet but I just got this Canon 6D Mark II because I am trying to get into photography and my sister asked me to take some photos for her small outdoor wedding in July. I've been practicing a lot and my hands kind of cramp up when I try to take those tall vertical shots of people standing up. Someone told me I should look into getting a battery grip thingy that attaches to the bottom?
I looked it up and saw the official Canon one is like 200 bucks which is way more than I want to spend since I already spent all my savings on the lens. I see these other ones on Amazon like Neewer or Vivitar that are way cheaper but I'm really scared they might fry my camera or something since I don't really know how the electronics work. Is it worth it to get the expensive one or are the cheap ones basically the same thing?
Also do they come with the batteries or do I have to buy more of those too? Sorry if this is a really basic question I just dont want to mess up the wedding photos because I am a total beginner at this stuff. Does anyone have a specific brand they like that isnt gonna break my bank or my camera...
Started with the Neewer BG-E21 Replacement Battery Grip years ago.
^ This. Also, keep in mind these grips usually ship empty. Youre gonna need two Canon LP-E6N Lithium-Ion Battery packs to actually fill the tray. Over the years, Ive found the Pixel BG-E21 Vertical Battery Grip for Canon 6D Mark II to be the best middle ground.
I've tried saving money on generics before, but unfortunately, they let me down. I had an off-brand shutter button get stuck during a wedding once... talk about embarrassing. The Vivitar Battery Grip for Canon 6D Mark II feels like a toy. Get the Vello BG-C15 Battery Grip for Canon 6D Mark II instead. It's reliable, though it doesnt come with batteries so youll need some Canon LP-E6N Lithium-Ion Battery spares.
