Hi everyone! I’ve been using my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV for a while now, mostly for event and portrait work, but I’m really looking to upgrade my lighting setup. I need a versatile flash that handles High Speed Sync (HSS) well and has a fast recycle time so I don’t miss any shots during fast-paced sessions. I’ve been eyeing the Canon 600EX II-RT, but I’m curious if third-party options like Godox or Profoto are just as reliable for professional use. Budget is a factor, but I don't want to sacrifice build quality. Does anyone have a favorite 'workhorse' flash that pairs perfectly with the 5D IV?

Hey! I get the recycle time struggle, it's honestly the worst. You could stick with the Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT, but I'd tbh suggest the Godox V1-C Flash for Canon because the li-ion battery makes it a much better workhorse for HSS. Ngl, it's way cheaper than Profoto gear and has worked perfectly for me for years!!!

Honestly, I've spent years and way too much money on gear that failed me, and unfortunately, I had major overheating issues with the standard Speedlites during long shoots with my 5D IV. For your situation, I'd suggest the Godox V860III-C TTL Li-Ion Flash for Canon because the li-ion battery is a total game changer for HSS and fast recycle times... basically it stays snappy even when the battery is low. It’s a solid workhorse that doesn't feel cheap, so just skip the AA-powered stuff and save some cash over the high-end gear, you wont regret it. gl!

I went through this last year and ended up with the Godox V860II-C TTL Li-Ion Flash for Canon. Basically, I just skip AA batteries now because I think the recycle time is like 1.5s which is AMAZING for HSS! its been a total workhorse for my 5D IV and way cheaper than those expensive Profoto units tho lol. Seriously, the 2000mAh Li-ion power is reallyyy a game changer. gl!
