Hey! Looking for the best travel lens for my Canon EOS 90D. I'm prioritizing versatility for landscapes and street photography. My budget is around $800. Any recommendations?

I definitely agree that having one lens that does it all is the way to go for travel, but I've been worried about the technical side of things with the 90D. Since it has that 32.5MP sensor, I've heard some older lenses can't really keep up with the resolution? I'm still learning about it, but I think you have to be careful about what glass you pick so it doesn't look soft. Also, does anyone else get confused by the EF versus EF-S fitment? I know the 90D can take both, but if you get an EF lens like that 28-135mm mentioned earlier, it's basically like a 45mm on the wide end... which might be too tight for landscapes? I've been looking into the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary lately. It’s specifically for crop sensors like ours, so it fits perfectly and stays pretty light for walking around. It might not have the CRAZY reach of an 18-400, but is it sharp enough for that many megapixels? I'm honestly not 100% sure but it seems like a solid middle ground for street stuff if the compatibility is there!

Just catching up on this thread and honestly, its been a great mix of suggestions!! Most people here are leaning towards those 'do-it-all' superzooms because of the convenience. But like the last post mentioned, that 90D sensor is pretty demanding and it really shows the weaknesses in some of that older glass. Regarding the EF vs EF-S confusion, basically EF-S is made specifically for your 90D's sensor size, so they're usually lighter and cheaper for travel. If your okay with losing some zoom range to get much better image quality for your landscapes, I'd look at a faster constant aperture lens. Its basically a game changer for street photography too: * Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM - This thing is legendary. Its way sharper than the 18-300mm stuff and the f/2.8 helps a ton in low light.
* Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM - A bit heavier, but the image quality is amazing for a crop sensor. Using a 'travel' lens doesnt always have to mean one single lens that does everything. A high quality zoom will actually make use of those 32.5 megapixels whereas the super-zooms can sometimes look a bit mushy. Hope that helps!

Hey! I used the Canon EF-S 18-135mm IS STM on my old Rebel. Super versatile for travel, and you can find them used for around $300. Might want to consider it!

Technically, consider the Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary. It's pushing your budget a bit, but that extra reach is worth it for travel; no lens swapping!

Skip new. Hunt for a used Tamron 18-270mm. Great value and range for ~$300.

Consider adapting an older EF 28-135mm. Cheap, decent IQ, and fun to tinker with if it breaks!

Hey! For travel, consider lens security. Unfortunately, I had issues with cheaper straps. The Peak Design Leash ($40) is worth it. A dropped lens is a ruined trip. While a versatile zoom is great, prioritize keeping it safe. Think about a padded case too, especially on bumpy roads!

Hey! Before settling, scope out Tamron's market share vs. Canon/Sigma in that zoom range. I've seen Tamron 18-300mm lenses punch above their weight for travel. Check reviews comparing image quality *specifically* on the 90D; some lenses just 'click' better with certain bodies. Happy hunting!

Hey! I've been rocking the Tamron 18-400mm on my 90D for years! Seriously versatile, covers EVERYTHING for travel. It's not the *sharpest* at 400mm, but for landscapes and street, it's fantastic! Forget swapping lenses, just zoom! The convenience is amazing. You might find a used one around $600. Love it!
