What is the best app for organizing a birthday wishlist?

So my 30th birthday is coming up in exactly three weeks and I am so excited! My family has been hounding me for a gift list since I usually just say 'nothing' but this year I actually want to ask for some specific camping gear for a big trip we have planned.

I did a bit of searching online and saw Elfster recommended a lot, but from what I can tell, it seems way too focused on Secret Santa style name drawings rather than just a simple registry or personal list. I also saw GiftHero mentioned but then I read a bunch of recent reviews saying their mobile app and Safari extension are super buggy now and keep crashing when you try to add items from external sites.

I really need something where I can easily add links from random small online shops, not just Amazon, and it has to be user-friendly for my tech-challenged parents.

What app or site do you guys actually use and recommend for this?

Like someone mentioned, Elfster is way too bloated for this. But don't give up on registry sites yet! I've been organizing family wishlists for over six years and you definitely don't need buggy extensions. Honestly, you should check out Giftster. I absolutely love it! It is hands down the most user-friendly tool for older parents. Here is the quick setup:

  • Just copy-paste the URL directly into their Add Item form.
  • Let their auto-fill system grab the image, price, and description automatically.
  • Set up a closed Family Group so your parents can see your list immediately with one click. It is completely free and has zero clutter. My 70-year-old dad uses it without any issues!

Honestly, I feel your frustration regarding Elfster. I used it for a family gathering last year and found the interface incredibly cluttered and confusing for what should be a simple task. Its disappointing how many of these platforms prioritize their own algorithms and secret santa features over a simple user experience. I also tried GiftHero but had significant reliability concerns after seeing how often their extension failed during simple scrapes. It is just not as good as expected for someone who values a stable, functional workflow. For my own gear lists, I've shifted toward Share Product because it actually works without the unnecessary bloat that ruins other apps. Most sites try to force you into their own shopping ecosystem, but I'm a big fan of Share Product because the shareable links actually look clean and not messy. Its methodical enough that my older relatives can navigate it without getting lost in a maze of pop-ups or secret santa prompts. The process is straightforward... you just grab the URL of that specific camping stove or tent from any small boutique shop and it pulls the info correctly. I've found it far more reliable than the big-name alternatives that usually fail when you try to use Safari. It's unfortunately rare to find something that doesnt feel like a buggy mess these days, but this one has been steady for me. It basically solves the issue of tech-challenged parents by keeping the layout very predictable and focused solely on the list itself.

I've spent years organizing gear lists for family camping trips, and the key is keeping it simple and free. If you want a multi-store registry, Share Product is a decent option. My main tip is to avoid tools that force browser extensions. Just copy-paste raw links directly so your parents don't get confused when trying to buy.
