I am finally the one in charge of the family Secret Santa this year and I am honestly so pumped about it. We have about 15 people joining from all over the country so doing it in person isnt an option and I need to get the invites out by Friday at the latest.
I have been doing some digging and I am totally torn between Elfster and Giftful right now. Elfster seems like the classic choice that everyone knows and has used before but I heard the mobile app can be kinda glitchy and it keeps pushing random ads which is annoying. Then there is Giftful which looks way cleaner and more modern but I am worried my older aunts might find it confusing if it doesnt have a super simple interface. I also saw DrawNames mentioned on a blog but I havent really looked into it much yet.
Here is what I am looking for:
I am leaning toward Giftful because of the aesthetic but if Elfster is more reliable for the actual drawing part I might stick with that. What do you guys think is best for a mixed-age group that needs something foolproof? I dont want to be tech support all through December...
TL;DR: In the exact same boat trying to find a truly free, secure tool for a budget-friendly family exchange! OMG yes! I am planning my family swap right now and stressing over the exact same things. We have a strict budget and I am so terrified of signing up for a tool that secretly charges for exclusions or sells our data to spam advertisers. I need zero-cost and total safety!
I've had so many issues with Elfster in my last few swaps, the ads are just way too intrusive and the app feels super cluttered. Unfortunately, Giftful isnt as foolproof for older relatives as I expected. Id suggest DrawNames instead. Its free, handles exclusions perfectly, and the wishlist linking actually works. Its way more reliable and wont leave you acting as tech support.
@Reply #1 - good point! DrawNames is seriously amazing and so much cleaner than Elfster. I love how it handles the tech side without any fuss! Quick question though... do your older relatives want to set up their own accounts, or would you rather have a tool where you can manage their wishlists for them? Some platforms let you do that and it saves so much headache!
