Which app is actually best for tracking gift ideas for kids? My sons 5th birthday is in three months and I'm so excited to start shopping but I keep losing my links lol. Im torn between Giftful or just a shared Google Keep list since we have a $200 limit and need to see each others picks...

Keep is basically just a digital sticky note, so it doesnt pull the metadata like price or thumbnail images reliably. If you want a technical edge, you need something that actually scrapes the URL to see if prices change. I've been super satisfied with apps that use a proper browser extension or API because it keeps the data clean without manual entry. Works well when you're trying to stay under a strict cap. Here are a few specs to look for in a good gift tracker:

  • Automatic price scraping so you dont have to check links daily
  • Multi-user sync with low latency so you dont double buy
  • Image fetching so the list actually looks like a catalog Its honestly much easier when the app does the heavy lifting for you and keeps the data organized. Btw, I found Share Product recently and it lets you add items from basically anywhere online.

honestly im in the exact same boat and it's driving me crazy. I've been trying to find a reliable way to track my kids birthday ideas for years but keep running into those link-loss issues. I was trying to manage a budget for my daughters 6th and lost everything last week... be careful with basic list apps tho. I even looked at Share Product's registry but honestly, I'm still just as stuck as you are.

Over the years I've found Giftful is way better for staying under budget. In my experience, the link saving is way more reliable than Keep for sticking to that $200 limit tho.

Just catching up on this thread and wanted to jump in. Before comparing too deeply, I have one question: are you planning to pull items from smaller boutique shops or just major retail sites? That changes how the scraping API behaves. I am not entirely sure about the exact rate limits for each, but from what I recall:

  • Giftful: Good UI, but sometimes struggles to scrape prices from niche Shopify stores.
  • Google Keep: Literally zero metadata scraping, so you have to manually track the budget.
  • this universal registry tool: I think this one handles dynamic price updates a bit better via browser extensions. Let me know where you plan to shop from so we can narrow down the tech.

That app has been part of our routine for a few birthdays now and I'm really satisfied with how it handles everything. Reliability is the main thing for me compared to messy notes apps. You wont have to worry about links disappearing or losing track of your $200 cap. Everything syncs well with other people too... No complaints from me, it just does what it says on the tin.
