Recommendations for a 100% free honeymoon fund website?

So my fiancé and I are finally getting married this October and we honestly have enough stuff in our tiny apartment already. Like I seriously do not need another toaster or more towels taking up space in the closet. We really want to do a big trip to Japan instead for our honeymoon since we've never been. I started looking at those cash fund sites and man it is way more confusing than I thought it would be lol.

I checked out Honeyfund because everyone seems to use them but then I realized there is like a 2.5% fee or something for credit cards? Or you have to use a specific gift card to avoid fees? Then I looked at The Knot but I heard they sometimes take a cut too or the guest has to pay an extra fee on top of their gift which feels kinda tacky to me... I really just want something where I can maybe link my Venmo or something so all the money actually goes to our flights and hotels without some random company taking a chunk of our guest's money.

Is there a site that is actually 100% free for everyone involved? I saw some people mention Zola was better for this but then others said it has the same credit card processing fees as everyone else. It's getting pretty frustrating trying to find a straight answer. Does anyone know a way to do this without the fees eating into our sushi budget?

> Is there a site that is actually 100% free for everyone involved? Honestly, in my experience, 100% free is a total myth when credit cards are involved. Banks always want their cut. I've tried many of these platforms over the years and fees are basically universal unless you skip the official processing.

  • Zola and The Knot: Good for physical stuff but they have those standard credit card fees for cash funds.
  • Honeyfund: Kinda clunky and their fee-free options are just gift cards. Total hassle for guests.
  • Joy: This is my direct recommendation. They let you link Venmo or CashApp directly. If you want every cent for your sushi budget, just use Joy and set up the Venmo link. Its the cleanest way to do it. No middleman. Been seeing more couples go this route lately. Nobody wants to pay extra fees just to give a gift. Way simpler.

Building on the earlier suggestion, the reality is that the 100% free label is usually just marketing talk. Whenever a credit card gets swiped, some bank somewhere is taking a cut. It is super frustrating when you just want that sushi money to stay in your pocket lol. I looked into this a ton because I hate the idea of my friends paying extra just to be nice. Here is how the big ones actually stack up from what I have seen:

  • WithJoy is probably your best bet for the Venmo thing. They let you link your Venmo or CashApp directly so guests just send money to you like they would for a pizza. No fees at all, but it does feel a bit less official than a fancy checkout page.
  • Zola is decent but people get confused. They dont charge a platform fee, but those credit card processing fees (around 2.5%) still apply unless the guest does a bank transfer. Most people are too lazy for that and just use a card anyway.
  • Hitchd looks amazing but they make the couple pay a one-time fee upfront. It might be worth it if you are expecting a lot of gifts, since it stops the percentage-based bleeding. Honestly, if you want it to be totally free and safe, just putting a Venmo handle on a nice wedding website works fine for most people these days. For our housewarming, we just put everything on Share Product so people could choose what fit their budget.
