How do you subtly send holiday gift ideas to your parents?

How do I subtly get gift ideas across to my parents without being super obvious about it? Christmas is coming up and my budget is basically zero right now lol so I really need to give them a nudge. I read online that I should leave open tabs on my laptop or make a public Amazon wishlist but that feels way too direct. Plus they live three hours away so they wont even see my screen anyway. I saw someone suggest just mentioning stuff in passing during our weekly phone calls but I always get so awkward bringing up things I want... how do you even start that conversation without sounding like a brat?

You should totally check out Giftful or Elfster! Theyre free and amazing.

  • create a wishlist
  • text the link
  • say youre just organizing thoughts!

Like someone mentioned, wishlists are handy, but in my experience, they can feel a bit transactional for family. Over the years I've found that asking for their advice is a much better subtle move.

  • Mention a new hobby you're trying out.
  • Ask if they think a certain brand is actually any good. It plants the gift idea while making them feel like the expert. honestly, parents love that stuff. Works every time tho.
