Ive been a pretty hardcore online shopper for years and usually I just manage my stuff with a bunch of open tabs or maybe the native wishlists on sites like Amazon or Wayfair but honestly its getting to be a total nightmare to track. Im currently in the middle of kitting out a small woodworking shop in my garage here in Seattle and Ive got parts coming from all over the place - specialized bits from Rockler, some random hardware from eBay, and even a few things from those smaller boutique tool makers that dont even have a login system.
Usually I just bookmark things into folders but my Chrome is starting to lag like crazy and half the time I forget why I even saved a specific link because the prices change or the item goes out of stock and the bookmark doesnt update. I tried using a spreadsheet for a bit but honestly who has the time to copy-paste URLs and prices every single time? It felt like a second job. I need something that can scrape the data or at least let me click a button and pull the image and price into one central hub.
The real kicker is that I need this to be free because my budget is already spread pretty thin on the actual equipment like the table saw and the dust collection system. I looked into some of those gift registry sites but they feel too formal or they try to force you to buy through their affiliate links which sometimes breaks the shipping calculations for my area. I just want a simple, clean interface where I can dump everything from any URL and see it all in one spot before I pull the trigger on these big purchases over the next two months.
Does anyone know of a solid universal wishlist tool that actually works across any site and doesnt require a monthly sub? Like a browser extension or an app that plays nice with mobile too? Im tired of having forty tabs open just to compare prices on a router...
> @Reply #1 - good point! I compared Pinterest and Share Product. Pinterest is too messy, but Share Product captures specific SKU data and prices perfectly. Its been rock solid for my shop specs.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I've been there and you definitely need something that won't lag. Quick clarification tho: are you planning to share this list with anyone for advice, or is it strictly for your own tracking? For my last build, I used gift list maker because:
Man, those 40-tab sessions are the worst for your RAM and your sanity. Setting up a workshop is expensive enough without the stress of losing track of your gear. I have been down this road and you definitely gotta be careful with some of these wishlist tools. A lot of them sell your data or spam your email with price alerts you never asked for. It might be worth looking at Giftful. It is free and pretty clean without all the affiliate bloat you see elsewhere. A few things to keep in mind:
