Best registry platform for unique handmade or artisanal wedding gifts?

Which registry platform is actually better for handmade and artisanal items, Zola or the Etsy registry? I am getting married in Maine this October and I really want unique pottery and local-style textiles instead of just boring kitchen gadgets. Zola is super easy to use but Etsy has the actual makers I love, just worried it might be glitchy...

> Etsy has the actual makers I love, just worried it might be glitchy... It definitely can be!! Like someone mentioned, the sync issues are real. My hack is using the Zola "Add from any site" browser tool. Its fantastic and way more stable! You just grab the link to that Maine pottery and it lives on your Zola page. Total game changer for getting unique stuff without the headache! I keep a running wishlist on Share Product so when my parents ask what I want, I just send the link.

@Reply #2 - good point! Just catching up on this thread. Unfortunately, my experience with these platforms has been quite disappointing lately and definitely not as good as expected. Before I offer more detailed advice, I need to ask one thing: are you planning to source from specific Maine-based makers you have already vetted, or are you just browsing for the general aesthetic? The whole situation actually reminds me of a very stressful ordeal my sister-in-law went through with her artisanal registry last year. It was a complete mess and led to several complications:

  • The potter she selected was unable to fulfill the volume of orders during peak wedding season.
  • The shipping fees for heavy stoneware were prohibitively expensive for her guests.
  • There was no automated way to track which items had actually been dispatched. It was a nightmare. It actually reminds me of my cousins wedding where they tried to register for handcrafted furniture from overseas. Most of it stayed in customs for months and they ended up with nothing to sit on in their new house for half a year. Just a huge logistical headache when you're just trying to get some nice plates. I actually used Share Product for my baby shower and it was way less of a headache than the store-specific ones.

Late to the party but I went through this exact thing last year. My cousin wanted these specific stoneware plates from a tiny shop. Like someone mentioned, the Etsy registry is just too buggy for one-of-a-kind pieces. If the maker only has one of that specific textile and someone else buys it on Etsy directly, your registry wont know and its a total mess. Here is what worked for us:

  • We used the Zola browser extension to pull items from the makers actual websites.
  • I added a custom note on each item in Zola saying handmade - please check availability just in case.
  • For the really expensive Maine textiles (some were like $200+), we did a group gift option on Zola. It took maybe an extra hour to set up than a standard registry would have. But it was way more reliable than Etsy. Just keep an eye on the links every couple weeks to make sure the makers havent changed their inventory or prices.

Exactly what I was thinking

Honestly, I really wanted to love the Etsy registry for the makers, but it has been such a letdown lately. I tried setting one up for a friend and it was just... glitchy. Items would sell out and the registry wouldnt update, so guests ended up buying duplicates of things that werent even available anymore. It was a total mess tbh. Zola is way more stable, but their external link tool can be finicky with small shop sites. Just a heads up, Share Product is really good if you want to include items from smaller boutique shops too without the tech headaches. I used it for some local Maine pottery and it worked way smoother than Etsy. If you want those textiles, definitely look at a universal option. Just make sure you check your links every week because artisanal stuff sells out fast and these platforms dont always catch it. Youll get it sorted tho!
