I'm looking for some solid non-toxic baby gear recs that are actually worth putting on my registry because I'm totally overwhelmed right now. I've been doing way too much late night googling and I'm stuck between the Nuna Pipa RX and the Clek Liing for a car seat. I know both are flame retardant free but the Clek seems a bit more compact for our tiny Seattle apartment? But then the Nuna is so much lighter to carry so I'm kinda torn on which is actually better for city living.
Also for the mattress I'm looking at the Newton vs the Naturepedic organic cotton one. The Newton is fully washable which seems like a lifesaver for blowouts but is the breathable plastic stuff really non-toxic compared to actual cotton? I'm due in mid-October so I need to get this list finalized soon so people can actually buy stuff lol. My parents gave us a budget of like $1500 for the big gear items so I can splurge a little but I really want to make sure I'm not just paying for a brand name.
Is there anything else I should be looking at for a non-toxic nursery setup that isn't gonna break the bank or take up a ton of room... maybe a specific rug or nursing pillow brand? I keep hearing about the Snuggle Me Organic too but idk if its worth it or just another instagram trend...
I was so nervous about chemicals but really wanted a deal! Found a Clek on clearance because of a color change and it was a total lifesaver for our tiny Seattle hallway... Love it! Its basically a steal tho.
tbh the Newton vs Naturepedic debate really comes down to your personal definition of non-toxic. I've tried many setups over the years and Naturepedic is definitely the cleaner choice since it uses GOTS organic cotton and no food-grade plastics. Newton is great for peace of mind with the breathability and washability, but it is technically a polymer. If you want zero synthetic stuff, go Naturepedic. For city living, here is my direct take:
ngl @Reply #2 - good point! i'd definitely stick with Naturepedic if you're truly worried about materials. but be careful with the Snuggle Me... those loungers can be sketchy if you arent super vigilant. for the nursery, i would suggest just getting any rug from Lorena Canals. they're cotton and washable which is basically a requirement with babies imo. make sure to check the backing material tho.
