So I finally pulled the trigger on the R7 after years of shooting with my trusty old 7D II and man, this autofocus is actually insane. Its like magic compared to the old days but I am hitting a bit of a wall with my glass. Ive been using the old EF 100-400mm v1 with an adapter and while it works fine its feeling a bit soft on this 32.5MP sensor which I guess I should have expected since the pixel density is so high. I have a big trip to Yellowstone coming up in three weeks and I really want to make sure I have the right setup for grizzly sightings and maybe some osprey near the river.

I was looking at the RF 100-500 because everyone raves about it but that price tag is a tough pill to swallow right now after buying the body and a bunch of extra cards. Is the RF 200-800 actually sharp enough for this specific sensor or am I better off sticking with a higher quality EF prime and the adapter? I have heard some weird things about the 200-800 being kinda dark in low light which worries me for those dawn shoots. My budget is right around $1900 or maybe 2k if I stretch it. What are you guys using that actually keeps up with the R7 speed without looking mushy when you crop in?

Love the R7 sensor density! Are you hiking or shooting from a car? The Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM hits the diffraction limit at f/9 on those 3.2um pixels. Tell me more!

@Reply #1 - good point! Tbh, diffraction is a serious concern on high-density sensors. Before spending those funds, dont forget to consider weight. Will you be handheld or using a tripod?
