Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a tripod and gimbal combo that actually works with the Canon EOS R6 V without costing a fortune? I am honestly so frustrated right now because every review I read says something different and I have this huge trip to the Pacific Northwest coming up in like two weeks where I’ll be hiking through some pretty damp, uneven terrain and I need to get this sorted like yesterday.
I did some digging and saw a lot of people suggesting the DJI RS 3 for the gimbal part but then I saw a forum thread where someone said the balance is a nightmare if you use the RF 24-105mm f/4L lens because it gets too front-heavy when zoomed out and the motors start vibrating. Then I looked at the Zhiyun Crane stuff and some people say the software is buggy as hell with the newer Canon bodies so now I'm just confused. I just want something that wont give me an error message in the middle of a shoot or require me to spend three hours recalibrating every time I change a lens.
For the tripod I was looking at the Peak Design Travel Tripod because everyone raves about how small it is but then I read that it can be a bit shaky in high winds and I'm gonna be right on the coast so that’s a total dealbreaker for me. My budget is capped at about $750 for both pieces of gear which I know is tight but surely there is something reliable out there? I’m mostly doing a mix of landscape stills and some cinematic B-roll of the forest. Is it better to spend more on a really good carbon fiber tripod and get a cheaper used gimbal or should I split it down the middle? I'm worried if I go too cheap on the gimbal the motors will just burn out after a few hours of use especially with the weight of the R6 V and a decent lens. I just dont want to buy something and have it fail on me in the rain...
I'm totally satisfied with my DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal and Manfrotto BeFree Advanced Aluminum Travel Tripod setup. They work well in the rain and handle the R6 weight easily.
> I'm worried if I go too cheap on the gimbal the motors will just burn out I totally get being cautious about that. For the R6 and heavy RF glass, the FeiyuTech SCORP-C Camera Gimbal Stabilizer is a decent option because it has great torque for the price. For the tripod, the Sirui AM-254 Carbon Fiber Tripod with K-20X Ball Head is my pick. Its way sturdier in wind than those flimsy travel ones and handles uneven ground easily. It fits your budget perfectly too.
