I just upgraded my old DSLR to a new EOS R6, and I am looking to bring my collection of L-series EF lenses along for the ride. I am a bit torn between the standard Canon mount adapter and the one with the customizable control ring. I have also seen several affordable third-party options online, like those from Viltrox, but I am worried about losing autofocus speed or having connection issues during shoots.

Do the more expensive Canon versions really provide a more stable connection, or are the budget-friendly alternatives just as reliable? I would love to know which specific model you recommend for the best balance of performance and price!

> Do the more expensive Canon versions really provide a more stable connection, or are the budget-friendly alternatives just as reliable? yo, congrats on the R6! Honestly, i was in the same boat when i first switched. I am still kinda new to this mirrorless stuff but i spent way too much time looking at the technical specs lol. Basically, i just wanted something that works without any drama. Here is how i see the options:

  • Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R: This is what i use. It is basically a simple tube with electronic contacts. Honestly, it works perfectly with my L lenses and the autofocus is seriously fast... no lag at all. Plus, it has weather sealing which matches the R6.
  • Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R: This one is cool cuz it adds that extra dial to ur old glass. If you wanna change ISO on the fly, it is really helpful, but it costs quite a bit more.
  • Viltrox EF-EOS R Mount Adapter: These are definitely cheaper, but i have heard they can be a bit wobbly or lose connection sometimes during shoots. I am super happy with the standard Canon one. It is really solid and i have had zero issues. definitely worth the extra cash for the peace of mind imo! peace

Seconding the recommendation above. Jumping in here to say that since there is no glass, you literally wont lose any AF speed, right? It is basically just a spacer with pins! I have been shooting EF glass for years and honestly, the Meike MK-EFTR-A Auto Focus Adapter EF to EOS R is a fantastic budget pick. Or try the Meike MK-EFTR-C Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter with Variable ND Filter if you do video. It is sooo worth it!
