Which fast SD cards are recommended for the Canon EOS R10?

Just grabbed a Canon R10 for a trip to the Rockies next month and I'm trying to figure out the SD situation. I'll be shooting lots of birds and fast action so I need that buffer to clear fast. I saw recommendations for those super pricey SanDisk V90 cards but then read some forum posts saying the R10 doesn't even fully utilize those speeds and that a V60 Lexar or Kingston is fine. I've only got about 150 bucks left for cards so I'd rather not waste it. If I go with a V60 will I actually notice a lag when I'm doing 15fps bursts or should I just suck it up and buy one V90?

I just got back from a trip shooting eagles and honestly the R10 is such a beast for wildlife! I went through this exact same panic trying to decide if I needed those crazy expensive V90 cards. I tested both and the V60 cards are absolutely fantastic for the 15fps bursts. I was shooting huge sequences and the buffer cleared so fast I never felt held back! You really dont need to waste your whole 150 bucks on one V90 card because the R10 cant even max out those write speeds anyway. My quick tips for the R10:

  • Stick to V60 cards to get way more storage for your money.
  • Buy two 128GB cards instead of one massive card so you have a backup. I personally use these and they are amazing:
  • Lexar Professional 1800x 128GB SDXC UHS-II V60
  • ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold 128GB Grab two of those Lexars and youll have plenty of speed and tons of space for your Rockies trip! I did that and it was a total lifesaver because I ended up taking way more photos than I ever expected... those mountains are just too beautiful to stop clicking. Seriously you are gonna love this camera!

Unfortunately, I've had some bad luck with card failures lately, which is so frustrating. Honestly, V90s are just overpriced since the R10 wont even fully utilize that extra speed.

Quick reply while I've got a second. ^ This. Are you shooting RAW or just JPEGs? I've been super happy with Kingston for years, they keep up tracking hawks. Any V60 works fine.
