I'm looking for recommendations based on compatibility, features, and user experiences. Any insights on which gimbals work well with the R8, especially regarding functionality like focus control and recording options, would be greatly appreciated!

DJI RS3 Mini is recommended. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=DJI+Mirrorless+Lightweight+Stabilizer+Panasonic&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50

Re: "^ This. Also, everyone is spot on about..."

  • I am in the exact same boat and honestly it is frustrating. I have had my Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Camera for a year now and still havent found a gimbal setup that feels 100% reliable. Most of these minis are fine for a bit but long-term they just feel flimsy... unfortunately had issues with motor jitter after only a few months of use. It is just not as good as expected for daily work. Quick tip: if you go with the DJI RS 3 Mini, make sure you are balancing it with the lens cap off and the screen flipped out exactly how you plan to shoot. Even a tiny shift in weight ruins the calibration and heats up the motors way too fast. Also, watch the usb-c port... it is way more fragile than it looks.

^ This. Also, everyone is spot on about those mini gimbals being the best way to go... it is like a match made in heaven for the R8 weight! Honestly, I love how light the whole rig stays. But seriously, a word of caution for anyone going this route: be super careful with your lens weight. Its so tempting to slap a big lens on there but you will totally fry the motors if you aren't careful. I have seen people do this and it is not pretty lol. Also, totally worth mentioning from a diy side—dont forget about cable drag. If you are doing a setup with your own cables, make sure they aren't pulling on the gimbal or your footage will be jittery as heck. Just take that extra minute to balance everything perfectly while its turned off and you are gonna have an amazing experience! It is basically the most important step tbh.

Also recommend the RS3 Mini from DJI.
