Whats the absolute best budget lens for the Canon EOS R10 that wont break the bank? I just got the body and Im super hyped to use it on my trip to Zion next month but I only have like $350-400 left to spend. I'm looking at the RF-S 18-150mm because it seems super versatile for hiking but I'm also really tempted by that RF 50mm f/1.8 since it's so cheap and good in low light. The 18-150 is pushing my budget but if it replaces three lenses then maybe its worth it? I'll be doing mostly landscape stuff but I want some nice shots of my friends too. Which one should I pull the trigger on...

Been looking at your budget and hiking plans for Zion. For a trip where reliability is key, the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM is a very practical choice for the R10. It fits easily under your $400 limit and is compact enough that it wont be a burden on long hikes. On your crop sensor, this lens provides a field of view roughly equivalent to a 45mm lens. This makes it a solid middle ground option that works for landscapes while still being decent for photos of your friends. Prime lenses like this are typically more robust than the Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM because they have fewer moving components. If you are worried about sand or bumping your gear on the trail, a simple pancake lens is a safe bet. Just keep in mind that the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM will feel very tight on your camera. It acts like an 80mm lens, which is excellent for portraits but might feel too restrictive for the scale of Zion. Since this lens leaves you some extra cash, get a decent circular polarizer like the Hoya 55mm NXT Plus CIR-PL Filter. It helps manage the harsh light on the canyon walls and makes the colors look much richer. Also, consider picking up a spare Canon LP-E17 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack since hiking all day usually drains the R10 pretty fast. Stick to the basics and you will be fine.

Dude, you're gonna have the best time in Zion! Seriously, it is totally unreal out there. Honestly, for a trip like that, you should definitely pull the trigger on the Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. I know it’s stretching your budget right to the edge, but trust me, it is so worth it for hiking. Landscapes in Zion are massive, but you also want to zoom in on those crazy rock textures or mountain goats way up high. The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is an absolute legend for the price, but on your R10, it acts like an 80mm because of the crop factor. That is way too tight for landscapes! Youd be backing up into a canyon wall trying to fit the peaks in lol. The 18-150mm is basically the only lens you'll need to carry on the trail. Its light, the autofocus is snappy, and it is surprisingly sharp for a super-zoom. If you really want that blurry background for shots of your friends later, maybe grab a used Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM down the road for like a hundred bucks, but for Zion? Range is king. You dont want to be swapping lenses while you're covered in dust or wading through the Narrows... it can get messy. Grab the 18-150mm and dont look back, its a total game changer for travel and worth every penny of that budget!

> I'm looking at the RF-S 18-150mm Unfortunately, my Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM was super soft when I shot the Narrows. Not as good as expected... grab the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM for landscapes.
