Just preordered the R5 Mark II for an upcoming trip to Japan in October and need a solid one-lens setup. I really don't want to carry a massive bag of glass.
I am torn between two options right now:
Budget is around $1300. I lean toward the L lens for weather sealing since it rains a lot in Tokyo, but that extra reach of the 24-240 is so tempting for street shots. Which one would you go with?
> Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L: Great build, weather sealed, but is 105mm long enough? Honestly, the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is the smarter play for that R5 sensor. Japan in October is rainy, so weather sealing is huge. While the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM has more reach, it gets pretty soft on 45 megapixels. Stick with the L glass; you can always crop in if you need more zoom.
Building on the earlier suggestion, sticking with the L glass is the right call for that sensor.
Just saw this thread. Honestly, you should just go with any L series zoom from Canon. I have been super happy with how their pro glass handles those high-res sensors.
