Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to a Canon EOS R6, and while the performance is amazing, the price of spare official LP-E6NH batteries is pretty steep. I’m looking for reliable third-party alternatives that won't trigger the 'non-genuine' warning or, more importantly, limit my high-speed burst mode. I’ve been looking at brands like Wasabi Power and BM Premium, but I’m worried about them potentially overheating during 4K video or not working with the in-camera USB-C charging. Does anyone have long-term experience with a specific brand that actually maintains the green 'H+' icon for high-speed shooting? I'd love some budget-friendly recommendations that don't compromise the camera's features!

Just sharing my experience: i've been using the SmallRig LP-E6NH USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery 2400mAh and honestly it's solid. 1. No 'non-genuine' warnings.
2. Green H+ icon stays active for those high-speed bursts.
3. Handles 4K video with no overheating issues tbh. It actually supports PD charging via the built-in USB-C port... reallyyy satisfied with it so far! 👍

Yo, +1 to what was said earlier! I basically went broke buying my R6... lol. I ended up grabbing the Neewer LP-E6NH Battery 2-Pack 2250mAh for like $50. That's literally half the price of one official battery! 1. No warnings so far
2. Green H+ icon stays active
3. Works with my USB-C power bank I learned that as long as it has the *latest chip*, ur usually good to go. gl!

So basically, I've been shooting with the R series for years and honestly, third-party batteries are a total hit or miss. The R6 is so picky cuz of the high power draw needed for that H+ burst mode. If the battery doesnt have the exact right chip, the camera just throttles your speed. I've used brands like Wasabi and BM Premium, but unfortunately, they were not as good as expected long-term:
- They usually lose that H+ green icon after just a few months.
- In-camera USB-C charging is super finicky and sometimes just doesnt work.
- I highkey had issues with them swelling slightly after heavy 4K video. Anyway... I guess if ur looking for budget options, SmallRig or Neewer are probably your're best bet, but they still arent as reliable as the originals. It sucks how expensive the Canon ones are tho. gl!

honestly, i have had some pretty bad luck with the super cheap stuff from amazon lately. i tried some generic ones and they basically stopped holding a charge after a few months... not as good as expected tbh. when you are dealing with a camera as expensive as the R6, i'm always worried about a cheap cell swelling up and getting stuck in the slot. if you want to save cash but still want reliability:

  • just get the Watson brand stuff, they are usually much more consistent
  • maybe check out the ProMaster batteries if you have a shop nearby
  • avoid anything that doesn't specifically mention being fully decoded unfortunately, nothing really beats the canon originals for total peace of mind, but those brands are usually way safer than the random no-name junk. just be careful because some third-party ones still wont give you that full burst speed forever...

Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
