Best vertical battery grip for long shoots on Canon EOS R5?

I’ve been doing more full-day wedding shoots lately and my R5 is burning through batteries way too fast. I really need the extra juice and better ergonomics for vertical shots. Is the official Canon BG-R10 worth the premium price, or are third-party options reliable enough for professional use? Looking for any hands-on recommendations!

Before I give advice, r ur shoots usually indoors or r u dealing with weather? Honestly, i’ve been disappointed by some cheap clones that basically lose connection if u bump ‘em. If ur on a budget, the Vello BG-C18 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 is usually $90 vs the $350 Canon BG-R10 Vertical Battery Grip, but i gotta know about ur environment first. TL;DR: check ur weather needs first cuz cheap seals suck tho.

honestly, I was in the same boat with my R5 and hated the idea of dropping $350. I grabbed the Neewer BG-R10 Vertical Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 for like 80 bucks and it's actually been solid. no complaints and no weird connection stuff at all. basically saved a fortune that I spent on lenses instead. if ur on a budget, it works great!!

> Unfortunately, the quality control on the cheaper stuff has gone totally downhill lately too. Esme is totally spot on about the quality control gamble! I was honestly losing sleep over this cuz the thought of a cheap grip frying my R5 during a ceremony makes me want to vomit. But I found an amazing deal on the JJC BG-R10 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 and decided to risk it after reading some deep-dive forums. It has been absolutely fantastic!! I love how the texture matches the body almost perfectly. I was super cautious at first and literally tested every button for an hour before taking it on a real job, but its been rock solid for months now. Ngl, saving that $250 felt like winning the lottery! I used the extra cash to stock up on genuine Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery units because thats where I really dont trust the third-party stuff for reliability. If u want that pro feel without the Canon tax it's such a win!

@Reply #2 - good point! Connor is spot on about the weather stuff, but honestly its such a scam that we even have to deal with this choice. Canon charging $350 for a grip is basically highway robbery, its just some molded plastic and a few connection pins. Unfortunately, the quality control on the cheaper stuff has gone totally downhill lately too. It drives me crazy that you spend thousands on an R5 and then have to gamble on whether a third-party grip is gonna disconnect right when the bride is walking down the aisle. Its ridiculous. The buttons usually feel like mush and the weather sealing is usually just a tiny strip of foam that does basically nothing. We're basically being extorted by the big brands and let down by the budget ones. Just feels like nobody cares about making solid gear for a fair price anymore tbh.
