honestly im so fed up with my current setup right now because it keeps failing me at the worst possible moments. i was out trying to get some shots of my kids soccer game earlier today and the camera just locked up for like five seconds because the buffer was full and the card couldnt keep up. it is beyond frustrating to see that busy blinking light while the action is literally happening right in front of me and i cant do anything about it. i have this old sandisk card i bought years ago but it clearly isnt cutting it anymore for 10fps shooting on the 7d mark ii.

i have a huge track meet coming up next saturday for the local high school and i really need to get this sorted before then or im gonna miss half the races. i have about 150 bucks to spend maybe 200 if it makes a massive difference but i really need something that wont choke when i hold the shutter down for more than two seconds.

  • do i need specific cf cards or are sd cards fast enough?
  • which brands actually work with the 7d2 bus speeds?

i heard the 7d2 is picky about the write speeds so i dont want to waste money on something that wont actually make it faster. what are you guys using that actually clears the buffer fast?

Stick with CF cards for the 7D Mark II. The SD slot is only UHS-I, so it bottlenecks the 10fps speed. I use these two for sports:

Like someone mentioned, you definitely need UDMA 7 CF cards because they are just fantastic for reliability! i use them for everything and honestly they never fail me. The SD slot is just too slow for sports.
