Looking for the best macro lens for Canon EOS R10. What would you recommend?

For the Canon EOS R10, I'd highly recommend the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. It offers incredible 1.4x magnification, excellent sharpness, and built-in image stabilization—perfect for handheld shooting. The bokeh is stunning too.

If budget's a concern, consider the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. It's more affordable, compact, and delivers 0.5x magnification, which is great for everyday macro work.

What subjects are you planning to shoot? That might help narrow down the best choice!

For Canon EOS R10 I would take Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM without hesitation. The sharpness is extremely high The lens includes all modern features you need.

Long-term experience: Using Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM for almost a year and am thrilled. Have researched for a long time and this lens was the best choice. The image quality clearly exceeds my expectations. Very good price-performance ratio, can only recommend further.

Just caught up with the thread and there are some solid suggestions here already. Basically, if you want native RF glass, the Canon RF 85mm f2 Macro IS STM and the Canon RF 35mm f1.8 Macro IS STM are the go-to budget choices everyone is talking about, tho they only offer 0.5x magnification. If you want true 1:1 macro without spending L-series money, you should really look into adapting older EF glass. Honestly, for an R10, the Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM is legendary and you can find it super cheap used. Youll just need the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. If you dont mind manual focus - which is usually better for macro anyway - the Laowa 65mm f2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO is an absolute beast for the price. It gives you 2x magnification which blows the native budget RF lenses out of the water for actual tiny subjects. Just my two cents for keeping costs down while getting better technical specs!

Just catching up on this thread and I love all the energy here! Im usually the person who stays strictly with official Canon gear because I am super cautious about compatibility issues, but I took a leap of faith recently and it was amazing. Before I give you my full take tho, what are you actually planning to photograph? Like, are we talking jittery bees in the garden or static things like coins or stamps? I ask because I started using the Venus Optics Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO on my R10 and the results are just fantastic! I was so worried about going third-party, but compared to the RF 35mm or 85mm mentioned earlier, it is a total game changer for these reasons:

  • It offers 2:1 magnification, meaning you get way more detail than the standard 1:1 or 0.5x lenses.
  • The APO glass means no weird color fringing, which makes the images look so crisp and professional.
  • It feels like a solid piece of metal, unlike some of the more budget-friendly plastic RF lenses. Honestly, I am obsessed with the sharpness! It is fully manual, which felt risky at first, but for macro work it actually gives you so much more control. You should definitely look into it if you want those crazy close-up shots!
