I finally pulled the trigger on a Canon 90D after months of saving up but now I am kind of freaking out about the extra gear I need to actually make it look and sound professional. Im heading up to Vermont next month to film my sisters wedding and I really dont want to mess this up lol. Its gonna be outdoors so wind is a huge factor for me.

I did some digging online and saw people recommending the DJI RS 3 for a gimbal but then I read a few forum posts saying the 90D might be a bit bulky for it especially with the flip out screen being a pain to balance. Does anyone here actually use that combo? I dont want to drop $500 on something that wont even let me see what Im filming.

Also for the audio I was looking at the Rode VideoMic Pro+ because everyone says its the gold standard but then I saw the VideoMicro is way cheaper and smaller. Is the extra $200 worth it for a wedding or am I just buying into the hype? My budget is pretty tight after buying the body so I can probably only spend about $600 total for both the mic and the gimbal if possible. Id love to hear what actually works for this specific camera because the weight seems like it could be a real issue...

> Congrats on the 90D! I did a super windy mountain wedding with mine last year and it was amazing. I used the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer... Agreeing with the point about the DJI being solid, but the Zhiyun Weebill 3S Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer is another professional route that works well for the 90D weight. Its design makes the flip-out screen less of a headache to balance compared to some compact rigs. I have been very satisfied with the stability it provides during long ceremony shoots. For audio, skip the entry-level stuff and consider the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro Shotgun Microphone. It has a dedicated gain dial which is huge because the 90D preamps can get noisy if you dont watch it. This mic sounds professional and saves enough money to stay under your $600 cap. It handles outdoor wind much better than the smaller options, and the battery life is insane. Youll definitely want that extra control when things get loud during the reception.

You're gonna have a blast with that 90D! Its such a powerhouse for video. I totally get the nerves about the gear tho... weddings are high pressure! Since you're worried about weight and that flip-out screen, check out the FeiyuTech SCORP-C 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer. It has a unique underslung grip that makes those long wedding days way less exhausting, and it handles the 90D bulk like a champ for way less cash. For the Vermont wind, you definitely need a decent furry windshield. I highly recommend the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+400+Shotgun+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=2222&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 400 Shotgun Microphone. It is super compact but the audio quality is incredible, plus it has a built-in shock mount to kill any handling noise. Pro tip: always balance the gimbal with the screen out exactly how you'll be using it. It takes a minute but makes everything butter smooth. You're gonna kill it!

Congrats on the 90D! I did a super windy mountain wedding with mine last year and it was amazing. I used the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer which is cheaper and handles the weight fine if you balance it right. For audio, definitely get the Rode VideoMic Pro+ Compact Shotgun Microphone. The built-in wind filter is a total lifesaver outdoors, so dont settle for the Micro!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I honestly have to disagree a bit about going for the most compact setup possible. I've found that for something as high stakes as a wedding, reliability is really king. The 90D isnt exactly a featherweight, especially once you slap a decent lens on it. Ive been very satisfied with a slightly beefier rig because those smaller motors can sometimes struggle when you're moving fast or if it gets windy... I just have a couple questions before you drop the cash:

  • Which lens are you actually planning to use? If it's something like a heavy Sigma, that changes the balance game entirely.
  • Are you gonna be filming the whole day or just the ceremony highlights? If you want something rock solid, I've had zero issues with the Moza Air 2S 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal. It's built like a tank and handles bulk way better than the minis. For audio, I've been really happy with the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+400+On-Camera+Shotgun+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=2222&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 400 On-Camera Shotgun Microphone for outdoor stuff. Id just hate to see you get something that feels flimsy when the pressure is on.
