My trusty G7X Mark III just started doing this weird hunting thing with the focus that I cant fix even in manual.

I'm so hyped to finally move to mirrorless for my NYC vlog series and have a $1200 limit! Which Canon vlogging kits are actually gonna hit the biggest discounts this Prime Day?

ugh that g7x focus hunting is a total mood killer... i had the same thing happen with an older power shot and it is basically why i jumped to the mirrorless system. honestly i have been so happy since making the switch because the reliability is just night and day compared to those small fixed-lens cams. if you are looking at prime day deals with 1200 bucks, here is what i would keep an eye on for your nyc series:

  • Canon EOS R10 with RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is my top pick for you. it has got better build quality and more physical buttons than the cheaper models. i have used this for a year now and it just works... no overheating or weird glitches to worry about when you are out in the heat.
  • Canon EOS R50 with RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is the more budget-friendly choice. it is gonna be way under your limit on sale, which leaves room for extra batteries. it is very simple to use if you just want to hit record and go.
  • Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM Lens is a must-buy prime lens for vlogging. the kit lenses are fine but this one is wide enough to actually see the city skyline behind you while you talk. the autofocus on these new bodies is literally lightyears ahead of the g7x... you wont be fighting the camera anymore. i am really satisfied with the r10 because it feels like a tool that wont break on me mid-trip. just make sure you grab a fast card too like the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card so you dont have any buffering issues while filming 4k.

Jumping in here... in my experience, those G7X focus issues usually stem from the older tech, so you're gonna love the new Dual Pixel systems. If you want to stay under that $1200 cap and still have cash for a mic, look for these specific bundles:

Just a heads up, you really need to watch out for the lack of stabilization on some of those entry-level mirrorless bodies. Since you're doing an NYC vlog series, you're gonna be walking a ton, and footage without IBIS is honestly a nightmare to watch. I would suggest keeping an eye out for a deal on the Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera Body. It is one of the few in your price bracket that actually has sensor-shift stabilization, which is pretty much a must-have for handheld street stuff. If you see it bundled with the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens, it should fall right under your $1200 cap during the sale. Just be careful with those too good to be true bundles that include 50 cheap accessories tho... they usually use grey market cameras that wont have a real warranty if the autofocus starts acting up again. Stick to the official Canon store listings on there.
