Shooting events with my Canon R6. Struggling with dimly lit venues. Looking for the sharpest Canon RF lens for low light. Budget around $1500. What's the absolute best prime or zoom for that price?

Honestly, I've been shooting with my R6 for a while now and ngl, the "brightest" lens isn't always the magic fix. I've realized that going for the widest aperture can actually backfire if you aren't careful, especially when things are moving fast. A few things I've learned the hard way after a year of ownership: * Focus Misses: When u shoot at f/1.2 or f/1.4 in the dark, the depth of field is so thin that if the person moves even an inch, the whole shot is ruined. * Wrist Fatigue: Some of those high-end low light lenses are basically boat anchors. After 4 hours at a venue, ur arms will be dead and ur shots will get shakier.
* AF Speed: Just because a lens lets in more light doesn't mean it focuses fast enough to catch people dancing or walking in a dark room. Some glass just hunts forever. I guess my question is, have u tried pushing the R6 sensor higher yet? It handles noise so well that sometimes it's actually safer to stay at f/2.8 just to make sure the faces are actually sharp. A bit of grain is way better than a blurry mess because the focus was too shallow, imo.

Been there! The RF 50mm f/1.8 punches way above its weight. I've used it for years, consistently sharp results. Just practice your manual focus in dim light beforehand; it's crucial.

Skip primes, grab a used RF 24-70mm f/2.8L for around $1300. Versatile and bright enough. Works well!

Consider the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN. Chromatic aberration is minimal; happy with mine. Test before committing, though.

Unfortunately, Canon RF primes under $1500 weren't as good as expected. Sigma Art lenses for adapted EF offer similar quality, sometimes for less. Do your research!

Fast primes are great, but be careful in crowds. Consider a stabilized RF 24-70mm for safer shots.
