I have been shooting more weddings and long outdoor events lately with my EOS R6, and the battery life just isn't cutting it for a full day of work. I am tired of constantly swapping batteries during key moments, so I am finally looking into a battery grip to improve my stamina and vertical ergonomics.
I am trying to decide between the official Canon BG-R10 and some cheaper third-party options like Neewer or Vello. The price gap is pretty big, but I am worried about whether the third-party buttons feel mushy or if the weather sealing is actually reliable.
For those of you using the R series, which grip do you think offers the best balance of build quality and value for long shoots?
> I am trying to decide between the official Canon BG-R10 and some cheaper third-party options like Neewer or Vello. Basically, grips add juice and improve balance. For weddings, reliability is EVERYTHING. I would suggest the Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip. I tried a Vello BG-C18 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5, R5 C, R6, and R6 Mark II but honestly the Canon build works way better for me long-term. No complaints! GL!

Been thinking about your situation and tbh, for weddings, the Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip is the only way to go for peace of mind, but you might want to consider buying a used one from a reputable shop to save some cash. Basically, you can often snag a used Canon BG-R10 for around 220 dollars, which is way better than paying full retail. I have seen too many third-party grips have issues with the shutter button feel or, worse, weird battery drain bugs that just ruin your day. If ur budget is super tight, the Meike MK-R6 Pro Battery Grip with Remote Control is okay for about ninety bucks, but be careful cuz the weather sealing is definately not on par with the official gear. Honestly, for professional work, the extra money for a used Canon grip is like the cheapest insurance you can buy for your R6. gl!
Seconding the recommendation above. I remember doing a wet outdoor shoot with a cheap grip once and the camera started glitching... totally killed my flow. Honestly, I think the third-party ones sometimes mess with the voltage communication, which is SO sketchy for weddings. IIRC, those budget seals arent actually weather-rated.
