Best battery grip options for Canon RF mirrorless camera systems?

I’ve recently fully committed to the Canon RF system with an EOS R6, and while the autofocus is a dream, I’m finding the body a bit small for my hands during long wedding shoots. I’m also burning through LP-E6NH batteries faster than I’d like. I’m looking for a solid battery grip but I'm torn between the official Canon BG-R10 and more affordable third-party options like Neewer or Vello. I’m particularly concerned about whether the third-party shutter buttons feel mushy or if they maintain the weather sealing. Does anyone have experience with these on an R5 or R6? Is the official Canon grip worth the extra $250, or have the cheaper alternatives been reliable for you?

oh man, I totally feel u on the R6 being a bit tiny for weddings! basically, I’m kinda new to this but I actually tried the Neewer BG-R10 Battery Grip first cuz it was way cheaper. Honestly? The buttons felt a bit mushy... I got so scared about the weather sealing failing during a rainy shoot that I swapped to the Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip. It’s AMAZINGly solid but pricey. definitely think the official one is safer for weddings tho!! gl!

Hmm, I've had a different experience. Cheap grips feel mushy, but official ones cost way too much. Ngl, just get a SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon EOS R5 and R6 2982 and extra Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery (2130mAh) spares instead!

Just catching up on this thread... honestly, I totally get the struggle with the Canon EOS R6 size for weddings. I've been shooting pro for years and the weather sealing is usually where cheap grips fail first. If youre doing paid gigs, the official Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip is lowkey worth the premium for the magnesium alloy build and the peace of mind. You might find this useful - check out The Digital Picture's site for their technical teardowns. They really show why the OEM grip holds up better against moisture. Here are some solid resources and options:
- The Vello BG-C18 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5, R5 C, R6, and R6 II is basically the only third-party one I'd trust. The buttons feel way less mushy than the Neewer one mentioned earlier.
- Check Dustin Abbott's YouTube reviews; he does great ergonomic tests for people with bigger hands.
- Pro tip: Stick with the Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery even in third-party trays to avoid weird communication errors on the screen. I'm super satisfied with the official one tho... it just works. Good luck! 👍
