I need a solid wireless shutter for my 90D because im doing a lot of macro work in my garden lately and even the slightest touch ruins the focus. I did some digging and found the BR-E1 but people on some forums say the pairing process is super clunky and it disconnects if the camera goes to sleep.

I also saw the RC-6 but im worried about the line-of-sight thing since im usually standing behind the camera. Ive got about $50 to spend and im heading out for a nature shoot in a few days so im kinda in a rush. Is there a specific brand that actually stays connected to the 90D without being a pain?

Saw this earlier but finally got a minute to weigh in. I remember doing some extreme macro with my 90D last summer and even the wind from my own breathing was messing up the focus stack. IR remotes like the RC-6 are basically useless for garden work since you're usually blocking the sensor while adjusting lights or diffusers. I would suggest looking at these two because they use 2.4GHz radio which is way more stable than Bluetooth:

  • JJC JM-II Radio Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Canon. This one is solid because it has 16 channels so you dont get interference. Be careful tho, make sure you check your drive mode settings or it might fire a burst by mistake.
  • Viltrox JY-120 Wireless Remote Shutter Release. It is super tiny and works up to 100 meters. I like it for macro because the receiver sits in the hot shoe and connects via a physical cable to the side port, so no pairing drama. Just make sure you get the C1 cable version for the 90D.
