I am seriously stressing out about this family reunion next weekend because I am supposed to take the big group photo but I also need to actually be IN the photo for once. I have a Canon Rebel T7 and I realized it doesnt have the infrared sensor thing so I cant use those cheap little remotes everyone has. I am torn between getting the basic Canon RS-60E3 wired remote or going for something like the Pixel TW-283 wireless system. The wired one is cheap and I know it wont fail but the cord is only like 2 feet long? That seems useless if I have to run back to the group. But then the wireless ones look so complicated with all the channels and batteries and I have zero time to figure out a complex manual before Saturday. My budget is basically capped at $40 tops since I just bought a new tripod too.
Is the wireless one actually stable or is it gonna lag and miss the shot? I tried the phone app but it keeps dropping the connection and I just dont trust it at all. Does anyone have a specific brand they use with the T7 that wont break after one use?
Honestly, the phone app is a total nightmare, so I am really satisfied with the Pixel TW-283 Wireless Remote Shutter Release. It works well with the T7 and is super reliable for the price.
Been thinking about your setup for a few hours and I gotta weigh in! Re: "Honestly, the phone app is a total nightmare,..." - you are 100% right there, but I actually disagree slightly on the Pixel suggestion from earlier. While that unit is cool, the interface is way too busy and technical when you are rushing to get 25 people to smile at once! I absolutely love the Viltrox JY-120-C1 2.4GHz Wireless Remote Shutter Release for these situations. It is fantastic because:
Saw this earlier but just getting back to my desk now. Regarding what #1 said about Honestly, the phone app is a total nightmare... seriously, dont even bother with it. Ive spent twenty years shooting family events and the worst mistake I ever made was trusting a short wired remote for a group of thirty. Thought I could beat the timer, but I ended up face-planting in the grass right as the shutter clicked. Not a good look. Since then, those wireless radio triggers that plug into the 2.5mm port are the only things I use. In my experience, even the basic ones are better than infrared because they dont need line-of-sight. You can hide the remote in your hand and it just works. Experience taught me that simplicity is king when twenty people are yelling at you to hurry up and take the photo already. TL;DR: Skip the short cables unless you want to sprint. Wireless radio sets are way more reliable than the app or those finicky IR remotes.
