So I finally upgraded to the 90D after using an old Rebel for years and I am literally leaving for a trip to Acadia next Friday. I thought I could just use my old intervalometer but the connector looks different? My logic was that most mid-range Canons used the same E3 port but now I am seeing stuff about the BR-E1 Bluetooth remote and I am worried about lag or the battery dying in the cold. I only have about 50 bucks left in my budget so I need to get this right the first time. Does it still take the standard 2.5mm wired ones or did they change something? I really dont want to deal with the phone app because it always drops the connection for me...
The 90D definitely still uses the 2.5mm E3 jack. I've been really satisfied with these options for my own kit:
Like someone mentioned, it's 100% the E3 port, but be careful with the pin clearance on some generic brands. Are you planning on doing star trails or just basic landscapes? I would suggest the Vello ShutterBoss II Remote Switch with Digital Timer for Canon with 2.5mm Connection because its internal circuitry is more stable for long exposures. Just make sure to keep spare batteries in your pocket so the screen doesnt lag in the Maine winter...
Building on the earlier suggestion, the E3 port is seriously the GOAT! I was at Acadia last November for sunrise and my phone app crashed immediately... radio remotes are where its at for range without the Bluetooth lag.
Been using this for years, no complaints
