Hey everyone! I have been shooting with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV for over a year now, and while I absolutely love the image quality and performance, I am starting to run into some practical issues during long shoots. Lately, I have been taking on more wedding photography and full-day events, and the battery life is becoming a major bottleneck. Swapping out LP-E6N batteries in the middle of a ceremony or a fast-paced reception is getting pretty stressful, and I have missed a few shots because of it.

Beyond just the battery capacity, I am really feeling the strain on my wrist when I am shooting in portrait orientation for hours on end. I think it is finally time to add a battery grip to my kit to improve the ergonomics and give me that extra power.

I have been looking at the official Canon BG-E20, but the price tag is making me hesitate. I have seen several third-party options from brands like Vello, Neewer, and Vivitar that are significantly more affordable. However, I am worried about the build quality. The 5D Mark IV is a professional workhorse with great weather sealing, and I am concerned that a cheaper plastic grip might become a weak point if I get caught in a light drizzle. I have also read some forum posts about third-party grips causing weird battery drain issues or having buttons that feel mushy compared to the camera body.

For those of you who use a grip on your 5D IV, which one are you using? Does the official Canon grip offer enough of a difference in build quality and weather resistance to justify the higher cost? Or have you found a third-party model that is just as reliable and features a responsive AF area selection joystick? I would really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences you can share before I make a purchase!

Does the official BG-E20 stand out as the definitive best choice for durability, or is there a specific third-party grip that offers better value for professional use?

Honestly, just get the Canon BG-E20 Battery Grip!! Its amazing cuz the weather sealing is legit and the joystick feels way better than the cheap Neewer Vertical Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark IV.

For your situation, I feel u. While Vello BG-C14 Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark IV is cheap, the official Canon BG-E20 Battery Grip is safer for pro weddings. Definately dont risk it. gl
