What are the actual best battery grip options for the Canon 5D Mark IV right now because I am seriously stressing out about an upcoming wedding shoot? I have this massive gig in two weeks up in Seattle and I know the battery life on the 5D is decent but I am going to be shooting a ton of 4K video during the reception and I heard that just drains the juice like crazy. Plus I really need that vertical shutter button for all the portraits I am planning to do.
I spent all night looking at the official Canon BG-E20 but it is like 300 bucks which is just insane for what it is. I saw the Neewer and Vello ones on Amazon for way cheaper but the reviews are all over the place. Some people say the Vello one feels cheap and flimsy while others say the Neewer sometimes loses connection with the camera body which sounds like an absolute nightmare in the middle of a ceremony.
I am on a super tight budget after dropping all my savings on the camera itself but I cant afford for the gear to just glitch out while the couple is doing their vows... is the official one really the only safe bet or is there a third party brand that actually holds up to professional use? I'm just really worried about the weather sealing too since it might rain and I dont want to fry my electronics.
Re: weather sealing... spot on. My Meike MK-5D4 Pro Battery Grip works well and feels super solid.
If youre heading to Seattle, the weather sealing is the main dealbreaker. Third-party options like the Vello or Neewer usually dont have the gaskets needed for real rain. The Canon BG-E20 Battery Grip for 5D Mark IV is pricey but it is the only one that actually seals properly against the body. For a professional wedding, reliability is key. Not worth the risk. Check the used market to save some money.
Agree, the sealing is key. Unfortunately, my Vello BG-C14 Battery Grip felt really cheap and flimsy. Try finding a used Canon BG-E20 Battery Grip to get that pro build for less.
