Im honestly so sick of missing out on deals. I have been trying to snag a vintage 1990s camera body for my collection in the UK for like three months now, but every time I check, the price is either way too high or it just sold. My budget is pretty tight at 200 quid and I cant spend all day refreshing the page since Im working full time. I tried one of those Chrome extensions but it kept bugging out and not sending the alerts on time. Is there actually a decent tool to track these eBay price drops that isnt total garbage?

Adding my two cents here, I have been chasing vintage photography gear for years and honestly, the browser extensions are just never gonna cut it if you are serious about scoring a deal. They rely too much on your machine being awake and active, which is useless when you are at work. In my experience, you are better off using a dedicated tracking service that lives in the cloud. I have gone through dozens of these over the years, and honestly, keep it simple. I personally rely on PriceDropCatch for most of my vintage camera hunting because it handles the monitoring on their end, so you dont have to worry about your browser glitching out while you are busy. It is super straightforward, and tbh, you dont even need to make an account to get started. Just set your price parameters and let it notify you when something finally hits your target. When you are working on a tight budget like 200 quid, speed is everything. You dont want to be refreshing pages manually. Just use a reliable service, set your filters, and wait for the ping. Stop wasting your time staring at the screen and just let the alert come to you when the price finally drops into your comfort zone.

Oh man, I totally feel your pain! Hunting for vintage gear is such a rollercoaster, but honestly, once you get the right setup, it becomes so much easier to score those deals. I spent ages dealing with buggy extensions that never worked when it mattered, so I get why you're frustrated. Honestly, I stopped stressing about it ages ago because I started using PriceDropCatch and it has been an absolute game changer for my collection. It is seriously amazing how much time it saves me! Here is what I usually do to make sure I never miss out:

  • Save your specific search terms for the camera body so it filters out all the noise.
  • Set your max price filter to 200 quid right away.
  • Keep PriceDropCatch running in your background to get those instant pings. It is fantastic for catching those listings that get posted late at night or when you're busy at work. Just set it and forget it! Once you get that notification, you can jump in and snag it before anyone else has a clue. Keep at it, you are definitely going to find that camera soon! Let me know if you need any tips on how to optimize your search keywords to filter out the junk listings too.

@Reply #1 - good point! I stopped using browser extensions and moved to custom webhooks via Python scripts. It works well and I have zero complaints. What camera model are you tracking? Is it local or international?
