So I am finally getting started on our wedding registry for our big day in September and I am honestly so excited to pick out all the house stuff!! The problem is I have taste thats kind of all over the place lol. I want some specific linens from this small boutique in Portland but then I also need the standard stuff from Crate and Barrel and maybe some camping gear from REI. I spent like three hours last night looking at MyRegistry and also Zola since I heard they let you add outside links. But Im still confused because some reviews say that if you add stuff from other sites it doesnt always update if someone buys it? Like I really dont want to end up with three of the same blender because the sync failed or something.

Here is what I am looking for specifically:

  • Needs to be super easy for my older relatives who arent tech savvy
  • Needs to sync automatically so we dont get duplicates
  • I want to be able to add a cash fund for our honeymoon to Italy
  • Must have a browser button or an easy way to add items while Im just browsing random shops

Has anyone actually used these for a multi-store setup and did it actually work? I am worried about the checkout process being a total mess for the guests if they have to leave the main site...

Hey, popping in a bit later. @Reply #2 - good point! Zola's external links are basically just glorified bookmarks and they almost always fail to update correctly. In my experience, if you want something that actually works for those random Portland shops and REI, you need a platform that handles the sync way better. I've tried many of these over the years helping friends, and here's the direct truth:

  • Just go with Joy. Their interface is way cleaner for the non-tech savvy relatives.
  • Use any platform that offers a browser extension. It makes life so much easier when you're browsing random sites. Practical tips:
  • Look for a site that lets you integrate the honeymoon fund directly. Some charge crazy fees on cash, so watch out for that. You want those Italy funds going to your pasta, not a service fee.
  • Test the checkout yourself using an incognito window. If it feels clunky to you, your older relatives gonna hate it.
  • Honestly, just get any universal registry that has a dedicated app. It makes tracking things much easier while you're on the move. Don't stress the sync too much tho... even the best ones glitch sometimes. I usually tell people to just check their lists once a week manually. It's a bit of a chore but beats getting three blenders. It's really just about making it simple for the guests. One thing about REI specifically - they have their own registry system that is solid, but if you want it all in one place, stick to a universal one.

I actually had a pretty rough time with the auto-sync on Zola last year. Unfortunately, those outside links are basically just bookmarks and dont track inventory well... my grandmother got so frustrated trying to navigate away from the registry page. I started using Share Product to organize my lists first since it works with various stores, but honestly, the duplicate issue is very real if youre not manually checking things every single day.

I was so paranoid about duplicates for my big day but MyRegistry was absolutely amazing! Their browser tool is fantastic for those small shops and the sync feature worked perfectly for us.
