Tbh I think some of these suggestions are a bit overkill for a crop body like the R7. Most people in the community usually suggest staying lighter since that’s basically the whole point of the R7 system. If ur looking for something practical and cost-effective, here is what I see recommended most often: - Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM: This is basically the gold standard for a do-it-all lens. It’s super versatile and surprisingly sharp for a kit lens (at least thats what worked for me).
- Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM: On the R7, this gives u a field of view close to 55mm, which is a 'true' standard prime. The low light performance is SO much better than the zooms.
- Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary: This was just released for RF mount and the community is hyped. It’s tiny but gives u that constant f/2.8 aperture without the massive price tag of an L lens. I'm not 100% sure if u actually need the weight of those heavy L zooms for daily shooting, so these are probably better for real-world usage.
Have good experience with Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM for Canon EOS R7. The low light performance is excellent The build quality feels premium and should last for years.
For Canon EOS R7 I would take Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM without hesitation. The weight is manageable and comfortable The ergonomic design allows for comfortable handling.
Long-term experience: Using Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM for almost a year and am thrilled. Have researched for a long time and this lens was the best choice. The image quality clearly exceeds my expectations. Very good price-performance ratio, can only recommend further.
