Why this lens? The image quality convinces in all tests - both for photography and for video. Unbeatable for the price, can only recommend. Have already done several projects with it, always satisfied. Also more than sufficient for demanding tasks.

Just catching up on this thread. While the standard f/2.8 trinity lenses are solid, they dont always push the R5 Mark II sensor to its absolute limits from a purely technical standpoint. I spent months testing different setups and honestly, the glass you pick depends on whether ur prioritizing resolving power or hybrid functionality. If you want the absolute sharpest optics that basically render like a series of primes, check these out:

  • Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM - its a total beast, but that f/2 aperture across the whole range is technically incredible. It lacks IS, but wait no, the R5II IBIS is so good now it doesnt even matter.
  • Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z - this is the new king for technical versatility. Having f/2.8 all the way to 105mm with internal zooming is a huge deal for keeping the center of gravity stable.
  • Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM - if you need reach, the MTF performance on this is way more consistent than using a 70-200 with extenders. Basically, I usually grab the 28-70 because the micro-contrast is just better for that 45MP sensor. It handles stuff that the lighter zooms struggle with.

> Looking for the best zoom lens for Canon EOS R5 Mark II. Honestly, if your looking for the absolute gold standard that the community basically swears by, it's the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM. While the ultra-wides and telephotos mentioned already are great, this is the ESSENTIAL workhorse that stays on my R5II 90% of the time. The Dual Nano USM motors are insanely fast and the edge-to-edge sharpness is just on another level compared to the old EF glass. It's the industry benchmark for a reason.
