For Canon EOS R, Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is an excellent choice. The weather sealing is sufficient even for outdoor shooting The lens includes all modern features you need.

Additionally, you should note: The latest generation offers significantly better image quality than previous models. Especially ideal for demanding photography and video work. Compatibility with Canon EOS R is very good, and the autofocus performance is also convincing.

For Canon EOS R I would also consider the aperture. Do you need fast lenses for low light?

* Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R - like, u absolutely need this since Tamron hasn't released native full-frame RF lenses yet. But yeah, does anyone else feel like the eye-autofocus is actually way better with these adapted lenses than it ever was on the old DSLRs? It really surprised me how well they talk to each other - just make sure ur firmware is updated on the lenses or they might act a bit funky!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I honestly feel like the options mentioned so far are a bit of a mess. People keep bringing up the 70-180 or the 28-75 G2, but those are native Sony glass. Unless youre using a sketchy adapter, they wont even mount. I tried that route and it was definitely not as good as expected, tons of focus hunting and communication errors. If youre dead set on Tamron for your EOS R, youre basically stuck with EF glass. Here is what actually works:

• Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 for Canon EF Youll need the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R for both. But honestly? The combo is heavy as a brick. Tbh, I had issues with the weather sealing on the adapter joint too. If you want my advice, skip the headache and just get the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Tamron hasnt released their full-frame RF lineup yet and adapting their older lenses is just disappointing compared to native performance... its just the reality of the system right now.
