So I finally bit the bullet and preordered the R5 Mark II which is a huge upgrade for me since Im coming from an old 5D Mark III. I want to make sure I get the right glass to actually use that high res sensor properly without wasting the potential of the camera. Ive been reading a ton of reviews and basically everyone says the RF 24-70mm f/2.8L is the gold standard but man it is heavy and pricey. I saw some people online saying the 24-105mm f/4L is better for travel because of the extra reach but then others say it doesnt do the R5 sensor justice especially if I want to crop a lot or shoot in low light conditions.
I am planning a big trip to the PNW next month for some hiking and I really dont want to be swapping lenses constantly in the rain or carrying a massive bag of gear through the woods. My budget is around 2500 for the lens since the body already drained my bank account lol. I just want one lens that can stay on the camera 90% of the time for landscapes and some family shots. Is the f2.8 really worth the extra weight for a general walkaround lens on this specific body or is there a better middle ground Im missing?
The Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is the most practical choice for hiking. It's lighter and the extra reach is better for landscapes while that high-res sensor handles the f/4 perfectly.
Regarding what #1 said about the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM being practical, I definitely agree. Its a decent option for hiking.

Unfortunately, slow glass underperforms on high-res bodies.
