What are the absolute must-have travel accessories for my Canon 5D Mark IV? Im heading to Iceland next month and super stoked!

I read that a battery grip is essential for the cold but others say it adds way too much weight for hiking. I have $400 left and dont want to regret my gear choices...

Been thinking about your gear list. In my experience, the biggest threat in Iceland isnt just the cold but the constant moisture. I've tried many covers over the years and for a pro body, you need a reliable shield. The Peak Design Shell Camera Cover Medium is great for sustained waterfall spray. Also, consider a B+W 77mm Master Circular Polarizer MRC Nano to manage glare on wet volcanic rock; its essential for contrast.

> I read that a battery grip is essential for the cold but others say it adds way too much weight for hiking. Honestly, i skipped the grip when i hit the Snaefellsnes peninsula last winter. The 5D Mark IV body weighs about 800g and adding a grip adds another 300g plus the weight of a second battery, which really adds up on long hikes. Instead, i just kept three Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery 2130mAh inside my jacket pockets to keep them warm. Li-ion cells lose capacity fast in sub-zero temps because the internal resistance increases, so body heat is your best friend. For your $400, grab a solid L-bracket like the Really Right Stuff B5D4-L L-Plate for Canon 5D Mark IV instead. It makes switching to portrait mode on a tripod way faster when your fingers are freezing. Also, get a fast CF card. I rely on the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB CompactFlash Card 160MB/s because SD cards can sometimes get brittle or glitch in the extreme damp. Weight management matters more than bulk when the wind picks up.

^ This. Also, Ive spent days fighting mist at Skogafoss. In my experience, skip the fancy gear and just:

  • Keep batteries in warm pockets
  • Carry many cloths My back felt better.
